Overview

If you have a disability, you can apply for a Transportation Access Pass (TAP).

TAP card expiration date is based on your documentation of disability. TAP cards have a duration period of one or five years.

You’ll need to show that you have a disability using one of the two options below.

Option 1: Upload proof of disability

How long your TAP card lasts depends on which document you upload to show proof of your disability.

For a TAP card that lasts five years, upload one of the following documents:

Medicare, One Care, or Tufts Health Unify Card
Signed copy of the Health Care Professional Certification form showing a long-term disability
Disability placard from the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) showing an expiration date that is four or more years in the future
Veteran benefits summary letter on VA letterhead specifying a disability rating of 70% or greater
Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC) signed verification letter
Department of Mental Health (DMH) signed verification letter
Department of Developmental Services (DDS) signed verification letter
Current non-MBTA reduced fare card with an expiration date
Signed letter from your Travel Trainer on MBTA letterhead

For a TAP card that lasts one year, upload one of the following documents:

Signed copy of the Health Care Professional Certification form showing a short-term disability
Disability placard from the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) showing an expiration date that is less than four years in the future

Option 2: Enter an active RIDE ID number

Enter your RIDE ID number. You can find this number on your RIDE eligibility letter or contact the Mobility Center.

How long your TAP card lasts depends on when your RIDE ID expires.

If your RIDE ID number expires in less than four years, your TAP card will expire in one year
If your RIDE ID number expires in more than four years, your TAP card will expire in five years
